With the first sunbeams of spring peaking through the clouds and the temperatures rising up to double number degrees one can’t wait to go outside. Gardens need to be made spring proof and balconies need to be tidied up. As not everyone has a big garden (yours truly included), and balconies are fun and easy to maintain ánd can look very cozy and intimate. Space is often limited, so you need to improvise and be creative to make it work. Nevertheless, even the smallest balconies can be great!
So, how to make your balcony spring-proof?
First of all, to really enjoy your balcony and the time spending outside is to make sure that the floor looks good. This might be an expense but trust me, if you don’t like your dirty, uncleanable concrete balcony floor but love the idea of a wooden decking, do it. Seriously, I love concrete, but at a balcony it is hard to clean. A wooden decking gives an instant upgrade and looks more cozy, especially with rugs.
Having said that, Ikea has some wooden decking as well!
With a bench, regardless of its size, you can always seat at least two people. You’re not going to sit on a chair with two people, but a small bench will do. You won’t need a manufactured bench, improvise! Use crates, pallets, storage baskets or create using cement blocks and a shelf.
Use items that can serve for multiple purposes like using a crate as a storage place, but combined with a pillow, one can also use it as a seat. Or use it as a small table!
Up in the air
When there’s not much space, make use of hight! Often there is at least one stone wall to make use of. Instead of placing decorations on the scarce space on the ground, use the wall to decorate with plants, paintings or lights.
Same goes for the edges of the balustrade. Use it to hang plants at or even hang a table.
Of course, go crazy on decorations! The more pillows and blankets you place, the more cozy it gets. It’s perfect for the still cold evenings as well. A small rug will give warmth while plants, herbs and flowers give that extra look and smell of spring. Candles and soft lightning are perfect companions for the evenings.
Do you have a balcony? And is it already spring-proof?
